I finally tried Wen!

So I’ve seen the infomercials for years. I have insomnia, so obviously I am all about the thirty minute commercials, especially the ones with “before an afters!” I’ve always wanted to try it, because let’s face it, I hate my hair. There isn’t anything terribly wrong with it, it’s just there. Not awful, but not great, either. It’s really, really long and baby-fine, and just kind of hangs there limp and lifeless. My scalp is too oily, my ends are too dry, and more often than not it ends up in a quick bun on top of my head; not because I don’t want to do it, but honestly because I have no clue what to do with it!

Anyways, I am pretty broke most of the time, and instead of having to try and fight my way out of an evil auto-ship plan, I ordered a bottle off of eBay. I was skeptical, but very excited.

From my almost obsessive reading of comments, reviews, blogs, and instructions, I thought I had a pretty good idea of how best to use Wen. First, I’ve seen tons of comments saying it made people’s hair a caked on greasy mess. But I also read that if you don’t use enough product it will leave a thick residue on your hair. Seemed like common sense- pile it on. This made me the most nervous, because even the lightest conditioners can turn my hair into a matted grease flop. The other thing I figured about the negative reviews was that they were not leaving it on long enough, something I heard from Wen’s creator Chaz Dean himself on one of his many YouTube tutorials. Yes, I watched them all, so desperately wanting hair like the girls on the infomercials I wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing, and did it right. All this for shampoo? Well, it better be good was all I thought.

It came in quick thanks to an awesome seller, and I immediately jumped in the shower!

I love the smell. Some said Wen smelled too medicine-y, but I found it fresh, minty and clean. I glopped it on, probably way too much, but no way was I going to be one of those writing a bad review because I wasn’t smart enough to read the directions!

I worked it in really good, massaging my scalp and combing through, then piled it in a bun on top of my head. Proceed to shower, rinse hair.

The first thing I noticed was how much lighter my hair felt! And I don’t mean a little bit, I mean A LOT! I had to check to make sure my hair wasn’t falling out! Even soaking wet, it didn’t feel as heavy and lifeless, it had body and bounce, and I hadn’t even dried it yet. Like I said, my hair tends to gunk up with even the slightest bit of product or conditioner, but I decided to finish it with an extra pump that I ran through my hair without rinsing. To my surprise, it didn’t leave my hair heavy or greasy at all, it just locked in the moisture.

After drying my hair, it had more bounce, shine, and volume than I can ever remember. Instead of either a bad hair day or an “eh” hair day, I was finally having a GREAT hair day! And the next day looked just as good.

All in all, I think Wen is a great product. Sadly, my bottle ran out, and I haven’t been able to order more yet, but I will. The price is a drawback, and though you get a big bottle, you do have to use quite a bit for Wen to be effective. All of the problems I have read about can be corrected by just tweaking your process. So for now, my hair stays up (but with a toddler and infant at home, it works for me) but I can’t wait until I am able to get some more!

Until next time folks, X’s and O’s… Who am I? Just call me crazy 😉
